Questions and answers about the volcanic ash cloud:

Post by TheGreat&TerribleBob on Wed Apr 21, 2010 11:25 am

This was on the web......

Q. Should we worry that winds could shift and blow the ash into North America?

A. "At the current time we're not expecting that," said Jeff Osiensky, volcano ash program manager for the National Weather Service. "The likelihood of any ash even reaching into far eastern Canada is pretty unlikely at this point."

My questions about this question:

How many applicants do you suppose there were for this job?
How many openings do you think there are for this job?
How many people know that this job exists?
Who do you know that, as a kid, said, "I want to be a volcano ash program manager when I grow up"?

Final questions:

What exactly does this job entail? How do you 'manage' volcano ash? Do you have to sweep it up after the volcano stops or what?

What does this volcano ash program manager do when there's no volcano ash to manage?

Final final question:

Isn't volcano ash, by it's very nature - unmanageable?
