no, i live in a house with only 1 tv that has television access and I often hear my brother and my dad talk about those kind of things... although it's rare that they talk about something other than college football.

Here's kind of a semi-related thing... Ian whatever his last name is, is cousins of my old next door neighbors from California.. his family is Jewish and my neighbors were Catholic... I never did quite figure out how that difference happened.. but I believe they are all Italian... I could however, be wrong.
