I'm actually in this for a brief second! at about 9:13/9:14, I'm on line at a poetry reading waiting to get her to sign my book, and you can see me sway into frame for a brief second and sway back out. Funny.

Who is Mary Karr?

Too lazy to do the wiki thing.

Mary Karr (born January 16, 1955 in Groves, Texas) is an American poet, essayist and memoirist. She rose to fame in 1995 with the publication of her bestselling memoir The Liars' Club. She is the Peck Professor of English Literature at Syracuse University.

Yup, Katy's got it.

She's also one of my favorite modern-day writers. I've posted some of her poetry on here before:

Her poetry is great ("Sinners Welcome" is her most recent), but what she's most known for is her memoir writing. Her first one, "Liar's Club" deals with her rough childhood growing up in Texas. Her next one, "Cherry," deals with her adolescence. And her newest one, "Lit," deals with her becoming a writer, dealing with her alcoholism and becoming sober, and converting to Christianity later in life. It's one of the more compelling conversion stories I've read in recent years.

Ha! Yeah, i was a bit surprised too that JW hadn't heard me go on and on about her before.



Oh, and in addition to her books, Mary Karr is also currently co-writing songs for a new album from country singer/songwriter Rodney Crowell.

Not sarcasm. I don't purposely ignore any one person's posts, but I also don't read every one. And of the ones I do read, I have been known to forget. I may well have forgotten previous posts about Karr.
