Re: At the Moment
We have weird weather today. Not as weird as yesterday though. Man, that was insane!!!
I am hoping it gets warmer, and drier for the rest of the week. I am off then!

If not then who the hell is Ilva and why am I always wondering where she is?!
I love Ilva, but don't really want original pop/rock music played at my reception. It wouldn't fit with the swing theme anyway. One of my heroe's of the saxophone lives and teaches in michigan and I was looking into the possibility of getting him to come down and play with a quartet, but I couldn't quite make it work out.

Gotcha
Just wondering.
Also, the thing about the band was really about your being to nervous to sing in front of a crowd

Ahh, but you see, it's a completely different thing playing the saxophone in front of a big crowd as opposed to singing (while playing the piano). I sing a tiny bit with Ilva, but mostly just simple background vocals.

Re: At the Moment
ATM I'm very frustrated with my grandmother, the whole family is.
My grandmother who we all would do anything for at the drop of a hat has had extreme neck pain for the last few weeks and didn't tell anyone until it was so bad she couldn't move without crying, which happened to be while she was on vacation with my parents this weekend. They ended up calling 911 and the medics told her it was some kind of muscle strain so she refused to go the hospital but promised to see the doctor when she got back which was today.
So tonight, as in an hour ago she calls my mother to tell her that along with the neck pains, she's been having terrible chest pains as well, something she hasn't told anyone, including the medics this weekend. They rushed her to the hospital and found she has congestive heart failure and all of these issues were signs.
They are treating her now and want to keep her for another day or so to watch her but I just got the call that she's 90% better already. The doctor stressed to my mother and aunt who are there that because she's so healthy she can be treated and live with this for a long time. Which I kind of already knew since I know four of my friend's parents have the same condition and have lived normal lives for several years already.
The point is she didn't tell anyone because she didn't want to be a bother. I'm not sure what point in the last 80 years of her life that anyone has made her feel like she is a bother, but she pulls this stuff a lot. She's been hospitalized three times this year already because of things that could have been treated early if she just would have spoken up.
No one is sure how to get through to her to let her know that helping her is never a bother, we've talked to her until we're blue in the face about it and she just doesn't get it.
It's infuriating.

Re: At the Moment
I understand being frustrated, but can you imagine what you would do if, faced with a deteriorating body, in severe pain, you start realizing you cannot take care of yourself alone any longer? I know I personally would retreat into my own little cave and feel too ashamed to ask for help.
While it seems rational to ask others for help (because we know our motivation is to care and not judge), for the elderly people in our lives this is a crisis of purpose. This is not rational, per se, it's emotional and psychological. Every era of our lives has some struggle, and for elderly people it is letting go of what came naturally to them: their physical capabilities and their personal control. It is very difficult to feel valuable, purposeful, and like a contributing member of society when you can no longer do what you used to do.

Re: At the Moment
Pete I'm sorry about your grandma
It is so frustrating to see someone you love hurting and them not letting you help.
(Also, you do realize you have those tendancies as well right? That you think you're a bother when other people are just wanting to help you because they love you?)

Re: At the Moment
Mel, I guess it's hard because I've never thought of my grandma as elderly, if I didn't know how old she was I would guess early 70's because she's nothing like the typical 80 year old. It's hard to think of my grandma starting to have the health issues that many people her age have, and I suppose that is what's hard for her as well. I would just think that sometime during her doctor's appointments every month she would have mentioned this to him. At least at that point it would be under her control, she drives herself to 90% of her appointments, but I guess it's hard to say what I would do in someone else's shoes.
Bethany, at least you know I get it honestly. I guess the stubborn German gene is pretty thick in our blood. I hadn't really put the pieces together until you said that. I so didn't need to hear it.
Thanks Bob.

Better a gene in your blood than blood in your jeans.

After reviewing some pictures from this weekend, I have decided from this moment forward there will be no pictures of me allowed below the shoulders. This cease and desist order will remain in effect until further notice.
Thank you for your cooperation.
